We regard "books" as being publications that are too large for saddlestitching (binding with two steel staples in the spine). The
upper limit on pages is generally between 60 and 72 pages, depending on
the stock used, and whether the job is perfect bound or wiro bound.
Whether you're a new self-publishing author or a seasoned professional, Elect Printing can give you practical advice and assistance at every
stage, and all at great rates too!
Books, whether colour or black and white generally have their text
printed on a lighter weight of stock - often 70-90gsm uncoated stock.
This both reduces bulk and the cost per unit of material. A perfect bound
book will usually have a 250 - 300 gsm cover. A wiro bound book may not
have a heavy cover, but usually has a blank card back and a protective
clear plastic cover on either the front or both front and back. It's
not advisable for a designer to run pictures across the gutter (the
area between left and right pages) in books bound like this - it rarely
looks effective.
